Cathetrix is continuing its European expansion through a new collaboration with Teprel for the marketing and distribution of its catheter solutions in Portugal.

The partnership marks another strategic step in the company’s global growth strategy and strengthens its presence in Southern Europe’s evolving medical device market.

The relationship between the two companies began at the MEDICA 2025 exhibition, where Foley-Safe was introduced for the first time to José Pereira, Founder and Owner of Teprel. Following continued discussions and product evaluation, Teprel has now placed an initial order of Cathetrix products, with the first shipment expected to arrive during July 2026.

Founded more than 30 years ago, Teprel is a well-established Portuguese medical technology company specializing in advanced healthcare equipment and clinical solutions. The company has strong experience across multiple medical specialties, including urology, surgery, respiratory care, and operating room technologies.

Portugal represents an attractive market for innovation in urinary care. Like many European countries, Portugal is experiencing demographic changes driven by an aging population and increasing prevalence of chronic urological conditions, including urinary incontinence and benign prostatic hyperplasia. These trends are contributing to rising demand for reliable and patient-centered catheter solutions in both hospital and home-care environments.

At the same time, healthcare providers across Portugal are placing greater emphasis on reducing catheter-related complications and improving patient comfort. This is creating demand for solutions that can support safer long-term catheterization while also improving ease of use for clinicians and caregivers.

As part of the collaboration, the companies are currently focused on obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals from the Portuguese health authorities and aligning with the broader European MDR framework before commercialization begins.

A key part of Cathetrix’s portfolio is Foley-Safe, designed to improve the stability and safety of indwelling catheter use. By helping reduce unwanted movement and traction, Foley-Safe may help lower the risk of urethral irritation and related complications, while improving patient comfort. Its practical design supports both clinical and home-care settings, aligning with the growing shift toward patient-centered care.

This new collaboration further supports Cathetrix’s broader international expansion strategy, strengthening its distribution network across Europe and opening new opportunities in the Portuguese healthcare market.

As part of its continued global expansion, Cathetrix will also be exhibiting at the World Health Expo (WHX) Miami 2026, taking place June 17-19, 2026, in Miami, Florida. Visitors are invited to meet the team at pod Y106 in the Future-X zone to learn more about its latest innovations in urological care.
